Four Gases of Metoclopramide-Induced Extrapyramidal Syndrome

Abstract
Metoclopramide, a synthetic substituted benzamide, is a dopamine-receptor antagonist, an antiemetic, and a stimulant of upper gastrointestinal motility.
Initially, it was used in the treatment of esophageal reflux, Dyspepsia, and gastroparesis. More resently, metoclopramide has been advocated for the treatment of severe nausea and vomiting associated with antineoplastic chemotherapy and for the
treament
of nausea associated with acquied immunodeficiency syndrome.
This increased has been accompanied by numerous reports of neurotoxicity.
We have experienced 4 cases of extrapyramidal syndrome asscociated with metoclpramide in surgery, Kosin medical center during the period between 1989 and 1991. So we reviewed the literatures for metoclopramide-induced extrapyramidal syndrome.
